Has anyone found a solution to this problem when trying to create update lists or deployment packages with FEP definition updates included or even on their own.

I have been trying to create deployment packages and update lists with only FEP definitions included and i still get the same error

The ConfigMgr Provider reported an error connecting to the ConfigMgr site database server. Verify that the SQL Server is online and that ConfigMgr site server computer account is an administrator on the ConfigMgr site database server.

Any insight anyone has into this would be greatly appreciated

Your SU list is attached to a SU deployment package, found under the Software Updates | Deployment Package node within the CM07 console. How many SU are within the deployment package?

Sorry can you be a little more specific? In the whole Software Updates node, the folder?

There are only 230 items in the largest update list. Any superceded items have been removed, when I try to add updates to the list it gives the error.

The functionality has performed fine in the past, and this list was rebuilt from scratch about 4 months ago.

So far I haven't been able to locate an error that refers to a specific update.

Thanks

Do you have more that 500 SU in your update list or SU Package?

Thank you

Hello!

I realize that this thread is quite old, however I wanted to give my history of the same problem I had in my enviorment.

In my case I have FEP installed on my CM and use the Automatic approval funktion in Wsus to deploy Defention updates to my clients, I got this error when I tried to add a Defenition update to my update list. When I modified my search critiera to exclude all FEP related updates and tried agen it worked.

I cant say why but that was the case for me just thought I would share.

Just wanted to say thanks for this info. I also run an SCCM server with FEP integrated. As soon as i removed the FEP updates from the list, everything imported normally and i was able to create the required update lists

There is a limit of 500 SU per list and it is listed within the docs too.

I am encountering the same issue, but don't have a resolution.  It seems like there is some kind of limit to Update Lists that Microsoft doesn't formally accept.  I'm not sure if there are database modifications we could make that would resolve this.  I believe there are internal timeouts in SQL that could potentially be increased to resolve the issue.  However, I have not been able to find any guidance online on how to resolve.

Did any body find the answer?  I have the same problem, however, I created an update list and it fails to add updates in a buld but, if I add one or two updates, it works.

I heard the same thing. Would be curious to know what PSS said, if anything, on this issue.
I haven't found a solution yet but received a new error when trying to modify our server baseline update list that contains over 400 updates:

Error:  Not enough quota is available to process this command.  Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070718

I read some where that this could be related to insufficient Virtual Memory.  I think I'm about ready to contact PSS on this one.

Thanks, I was just planning to give in and do that and it has completed adding 1619 updates to the All Updates list after I applied the hotfix KB981797.

Just because you got them into a list doesn't mean you will be able to deploy that list in a single package. Plus if you have ANY problems with SUM and you call CSS they will tell you to get that package under 500 before they can help you.

That may be helpful to someone else?

Thanks for the quick response.

As long as there aren't more than 500 you should be fine. I break mine into product catagories and I update my image every couple months and I have never had to exceed 500.

Hi All,

Has there been any progress on a fix for this? I've been on this about a month with no real progress, same error adding updates to an 'all updates' list.

If Microsoft don't recommend an updates list with all updates in, how should I be trying to get all updates to apply to for example a new machine or one that has not been updated for several months etc?

Many thanks,

Chris

I'm seeing the same thing, after installing SP2.  We have an update list with around 480 patches, we went to add another 50 or so and get the same exact error (as listed above).  We have created a new update list and can move small amounts in, but when we update it with larger amounts of patches it fails.

Lance,

You're saying that before upgrading to ConfigMgr SP2 you had no issues?

I have been told 500 is the theoretical limit. I also have seen clients with more.

John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum

ive been doing 900-1100 before upgrading to sp2 with no issues. now we cant do more than 100
